TRAVELING SOWELL
Going to the largest city in North America, we expected crowds and chaos. Instead, we found a city that felt more like a forest, food and drinks we’re still talking about, and plenty of reasons to start planning our next visit.
From the bellmen in top hats who greeted us at the door to the pool overlooking the city, this hotel felt special from the start. The bars and restaurants were top-notch, the service was fantastic, and the location in the heart of Polanco is hard to beat.
This food tour was the ultimate introduction to Mexico City. We ate our way through the historic center, trying tacos and other local favorites along the way. At one point, someone in our group stopped mid-meal and said, “Those were the best tacos I’ve ever had in my life.” That pretty much sums it up.
This was one of the most fun afternoons of our trip. We cruised the Xochimilco canals with drinks, food and music, and the whole thing felt like a floating party. We booked a private boat for our group, but there are plenty of individual and smaller-group Xochimilco experiences available as well. Juan Carlos was fantastic to work with, and his crew took great care of us.
Named the #1 bar in the world in 2024, Handshake had a lot to live up to. Once we were inside, it was easy to see why. They’re taking cocktails to another level, with drinks unlike anything we’d had before.
Mexico City is packed with incredible restaurants, but Mestiza was probably our favorite meal of the trip. The food was fantastic, the cocktails were just as good, and the atmosphere made the whole meal feel like an experience. It was so good we went there twice.
Café Toscano has one of our favorite outdoor patios in Mexico City and was the perfect spot for a relaxed breakfast in Polanco. Next time we’re back, this will be our first stop for breakfast.
